Cryo TEM

Cryo TEM allows detailed observation of vitrified samples prepared and maintained at ultracold liquid-nitrogen temperatures, ideal for for study of complex biomolecules like proteins and nucleic acids as well as pharmaceuticals and volatile materials in a near-native state.

Leica EM GP2 Plunge Freezer

The Leica EM GP2 plunge freezer prepares vitrified samples for cryo TEM.  Before freezing, the sample is held in a controlled environment chamber at custom adjustable temperature and humidity.  Excess fluid is removed by automatic blotting, and liquid ethane is used to freeze liquid or ultrathin samples on the TEM grid without formation of ice crystals.

The GATAN Elsa cryo-transfer holder is a single-tilt grid holder for frost-free transfer of a vitrified sample into the TEM at liquid nitrogen temperature.
