The Materials Characterization, Analysis, and Fabrication (MCAF) Core facility provides technical/engineering expertise and access to an extensive set of tools in the R1A and R2 buildings in the NDeavor Barry D. Batcheller Tech Park on the NDSU campus.
Class 100 (ISO Class 5) and Class 10,000 (ISO Class 7) cleanrooms comprise a 12,000-ft2 area under filtration, with about $10 million worth of installed equipment. More than 130 other equipment sets are organized by function in the following laboratories:
- Materials Synthesis and Processing
- Materials Characterization and Analysis
- Microfabrication
- Device Packaging
- Device Testing
- Reliability and Failure Analysis
Resources housed in the MCAF Core are available to both NDSU researchers and scientists outside the university using a recharge/service-center model. In a recent fiscal year, MCAF provided services for 92 NDSU researchers from 11 departments in 4 colleges, plus 31 commercial users.
