Transfer Credits

Let's be honest - understanding how your transfer credits have been accepted and applied towards your intended degree can be overwhelming. We're here to help break it down and provide resources to make sure you're feeling comfortable about finishing at NDSU. The Office of Registration and Records along with academic departments carefully evaluate transfer credits to determine course equivalencies and applicability towards degree requirements.

Did my credits transfer?

In general, college-level coursework earned with a passing grade, from regionally-accredited institutions and those recognized by the U.S. Department of Education will be accepted in transfer to North Dakota State University.

How will my credits count towards my degree?

The applicability of transfer credits towards your intended program of study is determined by the respective academic department along with the Office of Registration and Records who determines how coursework fulfills general education requirements, pre-requisites or lower-level courses.

What if my credits didn't transfer as expected?

Once reviewed, students may request to have a course equivalency re-evaluated by submitting a copy of the course syllabus to the Office of Registration and Records. See Transfer Codes section below.

Transfer credits fall into three main categories:

1)

Major and College Requirements:
Courses that fulfill major specific requirements

2)

General Education Requirements:
Courses that fulfill general education requirements

3)

Electives:
Courses that count towards the total number of credits to graduate

How To View Your Transfer Credits

Two tools are available to help you better understand your transfer credits. Your Transfer Credit Report displays all courses transferred along with the NDSU equivalent course and grade earned. Your Academic Requirements Report shows you completed and remaining courses needed to earn your degree and incorporates coursework transferred into NDSU.

Transfer Codes

Every effort is made to determine if coursework previously taken has an 'equivalent' course at NDSU. In certain instances, additional information is required to make this determination and a 'placeholder' code is reflected in the student's Transfer Credit Report.
