Branch Out: The NDSU Arboretum Experience

The North Dakota State University (NDSU) Department of Plant Sciences Woody Plant Improvement Team hosts an annual educational event and tour called Branch Out: The NDSU Arboretum Experience at the NDSU Dale E Herman Research Arboretum. Tucked into the countryside between Absaraka and Amenia, ND, the location boasts the largest collection of trees and shrubs in North Dakota with over 5,000 different species, cultivars, and selections living on 35-acre facility. The Arboretum is essential to the work of NDSU Woody Plant Improvement Team which is to evaluate, select, and introduce new trees and shrubs that will survive in the harsh climate of the Northern Great Plains.

The event offers walking tours of the facility with a themed focus, talks related to tree and shrub care, disease prevention and treatment, and selection for a diverse and beautiful landscape, and time to rest and enjoy the peace you'll find in the space.

This field day is generally offered the first Saturday in September and requires registration. Check back here for updates as we move into late summer.
