Consultations
Free, one-hour writing consultations are available to NDSU undergraduate and graduate students, faculty, and staff. Meet with a consultant in person or online at any stage of your writing process.
What to expect
Our approach is writer-centered: our trained consultants develop the writer through work on the writing. Through careful reading and conversation, we offer strategies, options, and explanations while keeping decisions with you.
We can address sentence-level concerns, including clarity, grammar, and style, as part of improving your writing. Consultations are collaborative; we do not provide a proofreading service. Our goal is to help you make informed decisions and become a more confident, independent writer.
How to schedule
Use WCOnline to create an account, view availability, and book an appointment. First-time visitors will need to register.
For an individual consultation, choose the schedule for the current semester. The “Writing Groups” schedule is for facilitated group writing sessions.
Prepare for your consultation
Bring any draft, notes, assignment instructions, project requirements, or feedback you would like to discuss. Think about the questions or concerns you want to prioritize.
When booking, you can upload materials for your consultant to review. You do not need a finished draft to benefit from a consultation.
Attend your consultation
In person: Meet at the Center for Writers in Library 16, downstairs.
Online: WCOnline automatically provides the meeting link for your appointment. Use that link to join at your scheduled time.
