I received a letter stating that one of my students requires alternative testing arrangements. What procedures do I need to follow?

When at all possible, it is preferential that alternative testing be accommodated in the faculty’s department. When that is not possible, alternative testing is provided through the Center for Accessibility and Disability Resources (CADR) in the Main Library. These arrangements are intended to provide the student with a disability with an equal opportunity to demonstrate mastery of the material in question. Students may need the assistance of a reader, scribe, extra time, or a distraction‐reduced environment in which to complete the exam. Extended time is not unlimited time, but is usually set at time‐and‐a‐half (e.g. 90 minutes for a 60‐minute exam). In rare instances, severe disabilities may require double time.
Students utilizing alternative testing in the Center for Accessibility and Disability Resources are required to sign up for alternate testing in the Bison Accessibility Portal to schedule the room and any additional supports needed to assist them (reader, scribe, etc.).
Faculty should complete the Testing Accommodations Agreement listing specific supports allowed and any other items (notes, calculator, etc.) that the class may use. The staff in the Center for Accessibility and Disability Resources has all the necessary information regarding every student’s accommodation needs and only require your whole class instructions. The office will make all adjustments and arrangements within the parameters of their accommodations while still maintaining the objective of the quiz or test.
