Student-led fashion show scheduled

NDSU’s annual fashion show put on by students in the apparel, retail merchandising and design program for more than 20 years, is set for noon on Wednesday, April 24 in the Memorial Union’s Oceti Sakowin Ballroom.

The event is free and open to the public.

This year students in NDSU’s fashion show production course have worked on putting the show together with help from students in the Fashion Apparel and Business Organization. In past years the show has been hosted by FABO.

Students work on all the behind-the-scenes details throughout the semester, including finding student designers and models, selecting a theme, working with local retailers, thinking about set design and creating promotion for the event.

This year’s theme “Refined Runway: Elevate Your Style,” plays off the idea that each model will have their own style that they can elevate to another level. At least 20 local retailers are participating in the show. About 300 to 450 people are anticipated to attend.

Sara Sunderlin, NDSU senior lecturer in apparel, retail merchandising and design, said seeing the fashion show come together every year is an amazing thing to experience.

“It’s fun and it allows our students to have good leadership opportunities, communication skills, working with stores and working with models. It’s a very hands-on thing,” she said.
