The Memorial Union Gallery at NDSU is celebrating 100 years of Little Country Theater with an exhibition that runs through April 10.
The gallery, in partnership with the NDSU Department of Theatre Arts, is presenting “The ART of Theatre: Master – Mentor – Medium.” Donald E. Larew, professor emeritus and Little Country Theater historian, is the curator. The multi-media exhibit focuses on three themes – master, mentor and medium – to illustrate the thriving artistic history of the NDSU Little Country Theater.
A public reception is scheduled for Saturday, March 1, from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. at the Memorial Union Gallery. The reception will feature Steve Stark’s illustrated history performance, “Dramatic Connections: William Shakespeare, Abraham Lincoln and the Little Country Theater,” and a screening of the documentary “The Past is Prologue: Celebrating 100 Years of Theatre at NDSU.”
The exhibition includes scenic and costume designs of master artists, including Broadway designers Robert Edmond Jones, Raoul Pene de Bois and Donald M. Oenslager. Lighting, stage management, costume and scenic design work executed by students with the mentorship of the Department of Theatre Arts faculty is featured, highlight the relationship between student and mentor that has flourished through the theatre’s history.
