NDSU safe from river flooding

NDSU officials said the campus is not threatened by the Red River flood conditions. However, there would be cause for concern if Fargo’s wastewater treatment plant would fail.

Bruce Frantz, director of facilities management, said NDSU does not have any buildings in the 100-year flood plain and there are only two buildings in the 500-year flood plain.

“There were no issues during the ’97 flood, and the issues we had in 2000 were due to overland flooding,” Frantz said. “This year’s flood scenario is comparable to what happened in ’97.”

Franz says that as of Monday morning, March 23, the city plants were able to handle the water.

“Right now NDSU is doing everything we can to support the city and county,” Frantz said. “NDSU has loaned equipment to flood workers located up at the Fargodome.”
