NDSU’s Master of Public Health program has received accreditation by the Council on Education for Public Health. The action came during the organization’s Board of Councilors meeting Oct. 6-7.

The program’s accreditation is for five years, extending to Dec. 31, 2021.

“We are very proud of the students, faculty, staff and administrative leadership team of our MPH program for achieving this important and historic milestone,” said Charles Peterson, dean of the College of Health Professions. “The accreditation process is a very comprehensive and rigorous external evaluation of the program from national experts in the field of public health. Successfully achieving accreditation is a strong acknowledgement of the quality of our people and program and provides graduates with important credentials when seeking employment.”

NDSU offers the MPH degree with specializations in:

•    American Indian Public Health

•    Public Health in Clinical Systems

•    Health Promotion

•    Management of Infectious Diseases

“Accreditation from the Council on Education for Public Health assures that we are delivering high quality public health education and training to ensure that our graduates achieve excellence in practice, research and service,” said Dr. Donald Warne, department chair. “With the only MPH in the nation with an American Indian Public Health specialization, we are also ensuring that our graduates will make an impact on promoting health equity.”

The program is offered both on-campus and through distance education formats. Faculty are drawn from a number of areas, including microbiology, pharmacy, nursing, medicine and health, nutrition, and exercise science.

“NDSU’s MPH graduates have already positively impacted health in the region and nation. Being a graduate of an accredited public health program qualifies our students for prestigious fellowships and scholarships,” said Stefanie Meyer, academic coordinator and lecturer, noting the program is accepting applications for the 2017-18 academic year.

The Council on Education for Public Health is an independent agency created in 1993. It is recognized by the U.S. Department of Education to accredit schools of public health and public health programs outside schools of public health.

As a student-focused, land-grant, research university, we serve our citizens.
