The theatre departments of the Tri-College University are set to host and perform works by distinguished playwright Mary Zimmerman during the “Mary Zimmerman Festival,” scheduled for March 20-22.
The Tony award-winning playwright will visit Fargo-Moorhead for a Tri-College Colloquium focusing on her works. While here, she will meet with students at NDSU, Concordia College and Minnesota State University Moorhead. She’ll also attend respective rehearsals of her plays, which are scheduled to be performed in late March and April. Zimmerman will give a public lecture on performance at NDSU on March 21.
“Mary Zimmerman's ‘Metamorphoses,’ a transformative production among the theatre community, gave New Yorkers and audience members across the country an artistic work in which to find solace after 9-11,” said Jess Jung, Theatre NDSU’s artistic director. “Zimmerman's work is powerful, magical and visionary. It is an honor to have her work with our students.”
Zimmerman received a MacArthur Fellowship, the 2002 Tony Award for best director and 10 Joseph Jefferson Awards, including ones for “Best Production” and “Best Direction.” She is a member of the Lookingglass Theatre Company of Chicago, an artistic associate of the Goodman and Seattle Repertory theatres and a professor of performance studies at Northwestern University.
