Horticulture student receives landscape association scholarship

SHARE

Horticulture student Sarah Kickert was named a 2017-18 Minnesota Nursery and Landscape Association Foundation Academic Award Winner. She will receive a scholarship co-sponsored by Southview Design.

Kickert, a junior from Shakopee, Minnesota, is advised by Todd West, professor and woody plant improvement project leader. She works for West in his research program and is a member of the NDSU Horticulture and Forestry Club.

In summer 2017, she worked as an intern for Southview Design, a landscape design-build company in Minneapolis. Her goals include working in residential landscape design and potentially returning to NDSU to pursue a master’s degree in landscape architecture.

The scholarship will be awarded during the Green Industry Awards Celebration to be held in Minneapolis in January 2018. Recipients also are offered complimentary registration to attend Northern Green, formerly known as the Northern Green Expo, to be held at the same time in Minneapolis. This event offers education, product demonstrations, and networking opportunities for green industry professionals.

The foundation’s academic awards program honors academic achievements of college students who have made horticulture or landscaping their career choice. More than 20 scholarships are awarded each year.
