Approximately 30 NDSU Men's Lacrosse teammates gathered for their first practice of the season on Sept. 1. Since the league's inception in 2004, the team has been on a quest to popularize the unfamiliar sport in the upper Midwest.

“Lacrosse is one of the fastest growing team sports in the nation, and we are just trying to feed that fire up here in Fargo,” said Pat Griffin, team vice president and captain.

The NDSU Men's Lacrosse team begins fall ball season with the 2009 DragLax Tourney on Sept. 26-27 at Minnesota State University Moorhead Nemzek Hall Intramural fields located at 649 17th St. S. NDSU's first game is against Manitoba Senior at 4:30 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 26.

Other teams competing in the tourney include University of North Dakota, St. Johns I and II, MSU-Moorhead and the MSU-Moorhead Alums. The championship game is scheduled for Sept. 27 at 1 p.m.

All games will be four 20-minute running time quarters. There will be a three-minute halftime and one-minute quarter breaks. Games are scheduled for 90 minutes.

The NDSU Men's Lacrosse team shares its conference with nine other teams, including St. Thomas, St. Johns, MSU-Moorhead, St. Olaf, Bethel, Carleton, UND, Augsburg and Wisconsin-Eau Claire.

“Our team has all the pieces for a national run this year, and with some hard work and training, we can make it happen,” said Jake Hubert, team president and captain.
