Navy personnel visit NDSU

SHARE

NDSU researchers recently hosted a group of Navy officers to discuss their various projects.

Rear Adm. Gene Price, Petty Officer Travis Scott and Lt. Emily McCamy of the Navy’s public affairs office, were hosted by Jane Schuh, vice president of the Office of Research and Creative Activity; Dean Webster, professor and chair of the Department of Coatings and Polymeric Materials; and Aaron Reinholz, director of research operations.

Shane Stafslien, senior research specialist, and James Bahr, senior research engineer, discussed their projects with the group.

The tour focused on special coatings projects by Webster and Stafslien that lower the adhesion strength of barnacles and mussels to metal objects and coatings that limit biofouling on oil booms. Bahr demonstrated his work with soy-based dust control materials.

Some of the projects originated from grants from the Office of Naval Research. The group toured NDSU laboratories located in the R1 and R1A buildings.

As a student-focused, land-grant, research university, we serve our citizens.
