NDSU to celebrate Coming Out Week

NDSU will celebrate National Coming Out Week beginning Oct. 11, which marks National Coming Out Day, a day that commemorates the struggles of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer people in our society to achieve equal rights and protections in the United States. NDSU has planned a week of educational and social events sponsored by the Equity and Diversity Center, Safe Zone Ally Program, Ten Percent Society student organization, Pride Network and Fargo-Moorhead community groups. Events include:

Sunday, Oct. 11
• National Coming Out Day Barbecue, 4 p.m. to 6 p.m., Equity and Diversity Center (Alba Bales House)
• Candlelight Vigil, 6:30 p.m., Fargodome, east parking lot
• United Spirits Service, 8 p.m., Memorial Union Century Theater

Monday, Oct. 12
• "Faith and Sexuality Brown Bag," noon, Memorial Union Hidatsa room
• Community play: "Laramie Project: 10 Years Later," 7 p.m., Fargo Theatre

Tuesday, Oct. 13
• "LGBTQ Youth Suicide Prevention Brown Bag," 12:30 p.m., Memorial Union Arikara room
• "Guess the Het? A program to address stereotypes related to the LGBTQ community,” 7 p.m., Alumni Center Atrium

Wednesday, Oct. 14
• "LGBTQ Rights: Locally and Nationally Brown Bag," noon, Memorial Union Arikara room
• Milk and Cookies social, 6 p.m., Memorial Union Gallery – Attendees will proceed to Campus Attractions Movie Night, featuring "Milk" at 7 p.m. in Memorial Union Century Theater

Thursday, Oct. 15
• "Share Your Story" Get-Together, 3 p.m., Equity and Diversity Center (Alba Bales House)
• Game Night, 7 p.m., Memorial Union Recreation and Outing Center 

Friday, October 16
• "Being an Ally Brown Bag," noon, Memorial Union Room of Nations
