NDSU sets orientation, professional development sessions for faculty

NDSU is set to welcome 53 new instructors when it hosts its annual New Faculty Orientation event on Thursday, Aug. 16, from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. in the A. Glenn Hill Center.

Vice Provost Canan Bilen-Green is scheduled to welcome the new faculty and provide an overview of academic polices and resources for teaching, advising and research.

A faculty luncheon panel, called “Things I Wish I Had Known My First Year,” will provide information and insights for new faculty members.

During the day, participants will learn through sessions titled “Positive, Supportive, Equitable and Inclusive Campus Culture,” “Overview of NDSU Benefits,” “Introduction to Blackboard,” “Getting Started: Research and Grants at NDSU” and “Mandatory Equal Opportunity/Title IX Training.”

The New and Returning Faculty Professional Development Conference is set for Friday, Aug. 17, from 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Memorial Union Great room.

The opening general session, “Beyond SROIs: Creating Feedback Loops in the Classroom,” will be presented by Carrie Anne Platt, associate professor of communication.

Melissa Latimer of West Virginia University is scheduled to present the luncheon session, titled “Learning Organizations as a Model for Shared Governance: Energizing Faculty, Thinking Differently and Setting Collective Priorities,” 

Concurrent sessions held throughout the day include “Developing Proposal Budgets and Budget Justifications,” “Teaching a Global Student Community,” “Open Educational Resources (OER) Initiatives at NDSU” and “Hot Topics in Research Integrity and Faculty Research Support at NDSU.”

New faculty orientation continues on Monday, Aug. 20, when a resource fair is scheduled at 11 a.m. in the Memorial Union Plains room and a campus bus tour is set for 2 p.m. with NDSU President Dean L. Bresciani.
