Barry C. Pemberton, graduate student in chemistry and biochemistry, was named the recipient of the ND EPSCoR Dissertation Fellowship for 2010-12. The fellowship carries a stipend of $38,000 and is given to highly talented graduate students pursuing a doctoral degree to concentrate on research and write their thesis. Pemberton is starting his fourth year as a graduate student carrying out his doctoral studies under the guidance of Sivaguru Jayaraman, assistant professor of chemistry and biochemistry. He received the College of Science and Mathematics graduate student research award earlier this year. Pemberton’s doctoral work involves the use of water-soluble nano-cavities to control light initiated reactions.
