Inspiring Teacher: Charles Okigbo, professor of communication

SHARE

Charles Okigbo strives to create deep and meaningful connections with his communication students. He has high expectations and challenges students to reach their highest potential.

Student success stories are some of Okigbo’s proudest moments.

“I see my children in these students, and so I treat them the way I treat my own children,” he said. “These students have impacted my life by making me more appreciative of God’s gift to me as a fulfilled and contented role model who expects high quality performance at all times.”

Okigbo teaches media writing, strategic communication research, public relations, and communication analysis courses. He said NDSU is a special place to teach because of the people who live, work and study in the Fargo-Moorhead area.

“Most of my students are serious and know why they left their homes for college,” he said. “Many come from rural North Dakota, noted for hard work, spirituality and honest living.”

Okigbo holds doctoral degrees in journalism and education. He joined NDSU in 1998 and was promoted to full professor in 2003.
