The NDSU Career and Advising Center is urging students to stay in contact with potential employers through the CAREERLINK platform. The center is also encouraging employers to virtually connect with students.
“Employers have the option to send the center an informational video or we can help them create one – this would be like having a ‘virtual booth,’” said Smita Garg, assistant director of employer engagement. “We are suggesting they host employer informational presentations and interviews through a media of their choice. We are inviting them to share any other ideas they may have.”
According to Garg, some employers are already planning and working on remote presentations via web-based platforms such as Zoom. Companies can set up a ‘virtual event’ in CAREERLINK and a link will be sent to students to register for the event.
“Now more than ever, we want NDSU students to use CAREERLINK so that they can be informed of and register for these virtual events,” Garg said. “With the Covid-19 situation, the nature of high demand jobs is currently changing, and we will continue to reach out to industry sectors where we see an increased actual or potential demand.”
Garg said the Career and Advising Center has reached out to companies in the retail, medical, transportation and health sectors.
In addition, the center’s other services are still available remotely, including:
• Virtual career coaching/studio services, such as resume reviews and mock interviews
• Internship registrations for summer and fall semesters are still available
• Academic advising appointments with center advisers can be made through Navigate and advisers will follow up with a remote appointment
• The center is regularly checking its general email inbox
