Emergency management faculty member presents at Naval Postgraduate School

Daniel J. Klenow, professor of emergency management and disaster science, gave a presentation Nov. 3 at the 14th annual Homeland Defense and Security Education Summit at the Naval Postgraduate School, Monterey, California.

The presentation, “The Post 9/11 Interrogation Story: Tracing the Narrative Threads to Enhance Student Pedagogy,” is based on content taught and continually expanded at NDSU during the past 10 years. Specifically, the presentation reviewed the extensive post 9/11 literature on interrogation models and their origin.

Sources for the presentation include literature from a wide range of CIA, FBI and military interrogators, legal analysts, historians, policy researchers, neuroscientists and social scientists.

Klenow earned his bachelor’s degree at the University of Minnesota-Duluth, master’s degree in sociology from the University of Toledo and doctorate in sociology at the University of Notre Dame. His fields of interest include emergency management theory and methodology, international disasters, vulnerable populations in disaster, disaster response, homeland security, terrorism, cyber security and pandemic vulnerability and response.
