Performing arts students recognized for musical achievements

Students in NDSU’s Division of Performing Arts have collected a number of honors and recognitions during the final months of the fall semester.

Challey Doctoral Fellow Isaac Lovdahl will premiere a newly commissioned piece with the Young New Yorkers' Chorus Treble Ensemble next May as one of only three finalists from across the world to submit new choral music in the Young New Yorkers' Chorus Emerging Composer Competition.

Challey Doctoral Fellow Zhouya Yang was the North Dakota winner in the Music Teachers National Association Young Artist Performance Competition and will submit a performance piece for the MTNA's divisional competition for a chance to perform in the finals at the MTNA National Convention in March 2023 in Reno, Nevada.

In the vocal area, 11 of the 19 NDSU students who competed in the Minnesota National Association of Teachers of Singing competition in Minneapolis were selected as finalists or semifinalists. In the Musical Theatre category, Natalie Harrison won the Upper Division of the competition, while Camden Pruitt collected top honors in the Graduate Treble division.

2nd - Lauren Sandison, graduate student in vocal performance from Spirit Lake, Iowa

3rd - Ziyan Hu, graduate student in vocal performance from Guangdong, China
