Approximately 750 North Dakota State University students and alumni will spend Tuesday, April 24, doing indoor and outdoor chores at 70 sites, including non-profit organizations and private homes, in the Fargo-Moorhead community.

The all-day volunteer program, organized by NDSU’s Volunteer Network, Student Government and Alumni Association, is called The BIG Event.

“The BIG Event is a day for the NDSU community to give back, show appreciation and say ‘thank you’ to the Fargo-Moorhead community,” said Trista Manikowske, co-president of The BIG Event student organization and a graduate student in health, nutrition and exercise. “Simply put, it is one big day, one big thanks.”

The BIG Event was first established at Texas A & M University in 1982 by a former student body president who wanted to give students the opportunity to say “thank you.” It has since become the largest one-day, student-organized service event in the country. April 24 will be NDSU’s third BIG Event.
