Office 365 email, calendaring coming soon for students

SHARE

The North Dakota University System recently announced NDSU student email will be upgraded to Office 365 during summer 2013.

During the upgrade, all existing content in NDSU Live, including email messages, attachments, folders, contacts and calendar items, will be moved to the new system. When the upgrade is complete, NDSU students will have two separate accounts. The first is an Office 365 account for email and calendaring and the second is a personal Microsoft account for SkyDrive.

After the upgrade, students will view and send email on the Web at www.outlook.com/my.ndsu.edu via Microsoft Outlook software installed on a computer, or through an Exchange account configured on a mobile device. They will use their current username and password. Students may need to reconfigure their Office 365 account on mobile devices and in Microsoft Outlook by re-entering their username and password after the upgrade is complete.

Each student’s personal Microsoft account will provide access to existing folders and files stored in SkyDrive. Students will use the same username and password to access this account as they do to access NDSU Live today. NDUS and NDSU will no longer administer this account, and as a result, cannot reset account passwords. Students can reset their own password for a personal Microsoft account after the upgrade at https://account.live.com/ResetPassword.aspx

Email will continue to serve as an official communication channel through which NDSU administration, faculty, staff and other representatives will communicate with students regarding university business. The student email upgrade to Office 365 is a first step toward bringing students, faculty and staff into one email and calendaring system. After the summer email upgrade, NDSU students will remain in a separate instance of Office 365. NDUS anticipates merging students into the faculty and staff instance of Office 365 during the upcoming academic year.

More information about the student email upgrade to Office 365 will be forthcoming as the timeline is finalized. If you have questions or need assistance, please contact the NDSU IT Help Desk at 701-231-8685 or ndsu.helpdesk@ndsu.edu.

NDSU is recognized as one of the nation's top 108 public and private universities by the Carnegie Commission on Higher Education.
