NDSU has a new integrated library system in time for fall classes.
NDSU teamed with Ex Libris Group, which services academic and research libraries internationally, to implement the unified, cloud-based system.
The new combined services, Alma and Primo, have replaced the library’s former multiple-system approach with a unified framework for resource management and discovery.
The new system allows searching of all resources from a single "Herdsearch" search box on the Libraries' home page.
“The implementation of Alma and Primo is a central part of our strategy to reimagine library services ” said Michele Reid, NDSU’s dean of libraries. “The new system enables us to realize substantial cost efficiencies and optimize staff resources. As a student-focused organization, we are constantly trying to implement innovative solutions to meet our users' needs."
NDSU is an early adopter of the Alma system in North Dakota, giving the school the opportunity to help shape the ongoing development of the product.
“The implementation of Primo and Alma by NDSU libraries brings together multiple library collections and resources in a single, powerful and easy to understand presentation,” said Lisa Feldner, vice chancellor for information technology and institutional research for the North Dakota University System. “The new library system will make research more efficient for NDSU students and faculty and significantly improve library services.”
