Submitting a Maintenance Request

Residence Halls

If you are living in one of the following NDSU Residence Halls, you will submit your maintenance request by filling out a condition log on the front or back of the trash room doors.

If you are living in Niskanen Hall (North, South, or Middle), you can use the QR code on the front door of each room to notify our team.

Apartments

If you are living in one of the following NDSU Apartment buildings, you will submit your maintenance request using the correct process below.

  • Niskanen Expansion
  • Bison Court
  • 1701 Apartments
  • University Village

Apartment Maintenance Request Process

  • Weekdays (Mon–Fri, 7:30 am - 5 pm): Call the Residence Life Office at 701-231-7282.
  • After hours or weekends: Call University Police at 701-231-8998.
  • Email requests: Send details to ndsu.residence.life@ndsu.edu.

Work orders submitted outside of this process will be canceled and must be resubmitted.

Frequently Asked Questions

Routine requests can be:

  • Minor plumbing issues (leaky faucet, slow drain, toilet not flushing)
  • Electrical issues (non-functioning outlets or light switches)
  • Lightbulb replacements
  • Shower bar replacement or reattachment
  • General repairs (broken furniture, bed frame, door, cabinet hinges)
  • Pest control (ants, small insects)

Emergency requests involve urgent issues that post immediate threats to health, safety, or property.

  • Plumbing (bursting pipes, severe leaks, overflowing toilets, sink flooding, sewage backups)
  • Power outages
  • Spark or smoking outlets/electrical panels
  • No heat during extreme cold temperatures
  • Broken door lock or window
  • Fire hazards (smell of gas or smoke)
  • Structural hazards (debris)

If it is an Emergency, please contact your Resident Assistant (RA), who will then reach out to the Hall Director on call.

If it is not an emergency, please fill out the condition log on the front or back of the trash room doors in your Residence Hall.

There is no charge for maintenance requests unless the issue resulted from damage caused by the student.

In every Residence Hall on every floor, there is a trash room. Every trash room is labeled with a sign either on the door or next to the door to indicate it's the trash room.

If you have any trouble locating where your trash room is, please speak to your RA or Hall Director.
