Move-In Day Time Slots

Any new incoming first-year student, or new transfer student, who is not part of a designated early arrival group will sign up for a move-in time slot for August 22.

Certain groups have a coordinated early move-in day, such as band members, athletes, and on-campus student workers. If you are part of one of these groups, reach out to your coach/supervisor to get details.

To increase efficiency on move-in day, students will spread out their arrival times over four hours. It is much simpler to have 25 students arrive in 30-minute increments than it is to have 200 students show up at the same time.

Move-In Day time selection times will open in early August. Please stay tuned for updates on the website and your NDSU email.

Students may choose to arrive in one of nine time slots:
8:00 am to 8:29 am, 8:30 am to 8:59 am, 9:00 am to 9:29 am and so on. The last selection time will be at 12:00 pm.

No. Students can arrive any time during the selected time slot. They have a full 30-minute window in which they may arrive on campus.

Not at all. The selected time slot is a window of arrival time. Students may take as long as needed to complete the move-in process.

Students may change their selected time (based on availability) up through the Friday before move-in. Times are not changeable once move-in day arrives.

Once all openings in a particular time slot fill, it will no longer be visible in the dropdown menu. However, since students are free to make changes up through the day before arrival, a time slot that is currently full may have openings later due to students switching their arrival times. Students are welcome to check back in their housing portal any time to see if a space in a preferred time slot is available.

No worries. Life happens. If someone doesn’t get to campus during their selected time, it’s perfectly fine to arrive later. Students who arrive late will not be turned away.
