Avenues of Scientific Discovery is open to all regional middle and high school students, though we have an attendance cap of 300 students. Students can attend with their school or individually.

Students are able to attend and eat lunch for free because of our generous sponsors.

Students must be pre-registered for this event. The reason for this is, we need to have a waiver signed by their parents that allows them to attend the event. The waivers parents sign are required by the NDSU Police and Safety Office for any minor attending any event on campus. The event itself is generally considered safe and any required personal protective equipment (goggles, rubber gloves, etc.) is provided by NDSU.

Event drop-off and pick-up will take place in the Memorial Union (MU) parking lot. Check-in is located in the A. Glenn Hill Center. Chaperones will be present in the drop-off area to assist and guide students.

Parents are welcome to attend the event but are not required to. Those who wish to stay on campus during the day are welcome to use the seating areas and guest Wi-Fi available in the Memorial Union.

Pick-up will occur in the same location as drop-off and is marked in green on the provided map. Event chaperones will ensure students are supervised until they are picked up.

Students are not required to bring anything to the event. If they’d like to take notes, they are welcome to bring a notebook and pen or pencil. A reusable water bottle is also encouraged. We recommend that students avoid bringing personal items or anything valuable, as storage will not be provided.

Participants should wear closed-toe shoes—tennis shoes are recommended. Socks are encouraged, as students may walk between buildings. For safety, long hair should be tied back during hands-on workshops.

Lunch is provided thanks to our generous sponsors. Event volunteers will escort students to the West Dining Center. The Clean Eats station serves food that is free from gluten and the top nine allergies: fish, shellfish, dairy, soy, eggs, nuts, tree nuts, sesame, and wheat. Please let us know if you have any severe allergies that require additional accommodations.
