The NDSU Math Circle is a free weekly program that runs during the fall and spring semesters in which high school students with a penchant for mathematics have the opportunity to be exposed to mathematics that they would otherwise not see in their high school or even future college curricula. In addition to seeing material that is new to them, they will not be presented with the topics in a traditional manner. Instead, the students will be given the basic tools of a topic, and invited to freely explore the landscape as a seasoned mathematician would do. This will be done under the guidance of an NDSU math professor, or a visiting mathematician.

Each week we will explore a new topic independently of the other weeks. Attendance at every meeting is not required, but it is very likely that topics from one meeting may apply to other meetings, and students who attend more meetings will see the week-to-week connections.

The NDSU Math Circle will be held in Minard 404, which is a mathematics conference room on the 4th floor of Minard Hall. Minard Hall is located roughly at the corner of 12th Ave and Albrecht Blvd, and is connected to the Reineke Fine Arts Center.

The NDSU Math Circle will be held every Monday night from 7 to 8:30 starting on October 27th and ending on December 8th. It will resume during the third week of the spring semester.

The NDSU Math Circle is administered on a completely volunteer basis. The coordinator of the Math Circle is Dr. Trevor McGuire, who is the main point of contact at Trevor.McGuire@NDSU.edu. Many other volunteers play many roles such as maintaining the website, helping run the individual meetings, pitching ideas for meetings, and running their own meetings.
