The Inspiring Colleague award was presented to Trish Strom, assistant professor of practice in the School of Nursing, at NDSU’s annual Teaching and Learning Conference in May. This award recognizes an individual who has gone above and beyond in sharing ideas and supporting others in creating effective learning environments.

The nomination letter submitted on behalf of Strom states, “Professor Trish Strom goes above and beyond supporting nursing students, program graduates, colleagues, and the healthcare community. Aside from her leadership experience, she is an empowering educator and a board certified health coach. Through collaboration, Trish provides feedback to assist in the creation of an effective learning environment both in and out of the classroom. Trish is truly a servant leader and is the glue that holds the School of Nursing together. She is often the sounding board for many faculty with problem solving, practicing crucial conversations, advocating for students, and incorporating innovative teaching methods. She hosts crucial conversations lunch and learns at NDSU and is recognized for this work in the region. Trish is a strong proponent for self-care and is a compelling advocate for changing processes to allow for a better school-work-life balance. Trish uses creativity to generate solutions and shares them with others in the department and across campus. She sent out a series of ‘Motivational Monday’ emails with links to community resources and was instrumental in starting a student support group. No matter the setting, Trish’s guidance and support results in a ripple effect, impacting those at NDSU and in the broader healthcare community. During her time at NDSU, she has undoubtedly impacted the lives of many students and colleagues through sharing ideas and best practices. Trish’s teaching methods bring real-world nursing to life and provide students with the necessary tools to provide safe and effective care upon graduation. Faculty have shared that when confronted with a challenge, they often ask themselves ‘What would Trish do?’ While it is challenging to articulate all that she has done to support the School of Nursing and NDSU as a whole, Trish is extremely deserving of this recognition. We are grateful for Trish and all that she does for staff, faculty, and students.”

“I am honored to receive an award for values I admire and strive to embody.  I'll do my best to live up to this award.  Thank you." Strom said.

Strom received a $100 NDSU Bookstore gift card as recognition of her dedication to innovation and teaching.
