NDSU Libraries and NDSU Press were acknowledged at the American Library Association’s annual conference June 20-25 in Washington, D.C.
The ALA Government Documents Round Table’s chair position went from one NDSU member to another. Hallie Pritchett, associate dean of NDSU Libraries for research and learning, passed her chair position to Susanne Caro, government information librarian. GODORT is a national organization that provides a forum for communication and ideas between librarians with government documents and initiates programs to increase the availability, use and bibliographic control of the documents.
Caro and her fellow authors received the ALA GODORT Margaret T. Lane/Virginia F. Saunders Memorial Research Award for the book, "Government Information Essentials.” The book was published by ALA and edited by Caro. The annual award is presented for outstanding published research in which government information forms a substantial part of the work.
“The book helps readers understand the multifaceted roles of government information professionals and improves awareness of the types of content available from Federal Depository Library Program depositories like NDSU’s,” Caro said.
Lindsay Condry, NDSU Libraries marketing and programs coordinator, was awarded three PR Xchange awards, including one for the NDSU Libraries Magazine in the external communications category. The annual PR Xchange Awards Competition recognizes the top public relations materials produced by libraries. Out of 440 submissions, 29 print winners and 26 electronic winners were selected.
“Libraries around the country are doing amazing things, and it’s exciting to be able to communicate our part in that,” Condry said.
NDSU Press was recognized for its award-winning publication, “The Prairie Post Office: Enlarging the Common Life in Rural North Dakota,” as one of this year's ALA Outstanding State and Local Government Publications.
“We take great delight in this recognition from the ALA and in knowing that peer institutions from across the country took a look at our book,” said Suzzanne Kelley, NDSU Press editor-in-chief.
