About First Lady Jan Stewart
Jan Stewart is an experienced people and operations leader whose career has been shaped by a commitment to organizational excellence and service. With a professional background in corporate leadership, she brings a strong focus on collaboration, relationship building and supporting individuals and teams to succeed.
Throughout her 30-year career, Stewart has held roles in the financial services sector and other organizational settings, where she led people-centered initiatives and operational efforts that strengthened workplace culture and performance. She is recognized for her ability to connect with others, foster trust and contribute to mission-driven work that makes a difference in people’s lives.
Following her full-time career, Stewart expanded her involvement in volunteer and community organizations, including service and leadership roles with United Way and the Friends of the Kansas State University Gardens. Her connection to United Way spans more than 30 years, reflecting a deep and sustained commitment to supporting communities and expanding opportunities for others. She has also remained actively involved in her church, where faith and family continue to be central in her life.
Stewart earned her education through the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill’s Kenan-Flagler Business School. She has continued her professional development by earning a SHRM-CP HR certification, as well as a certification in Global Business Leadership and Management through Arizona State University.
As First Lady of North Dakota State University, Stewart looks forward to building strong connections with students, faculty, staff and community partners throughout the state. She is committed to supporting the university’s land-grant mission and fostering a welcoming, connected community that extends beyond campus borders. She and her husband, President Marshall Stewart, have a son and daughter-in-law in Indianapolis and maintain close ties to family in North Carolina. Together, they enjoy traveling, spending time outdoors, attending live music events and visiting the beach.
