NDSU Researchers Included in Rankings of World’s Top Cited Scientists

NDSU researchers are among the top 100,000 scientists in the world based upon an annual list compiled by Stanford University. The list, entitled “Updated science-wide author databases of standardized citation indicators,” includes individuals who have published at least five scientific papers and provides each with a ranking based upon criteria including the researcher’s citations.

Stanford compiles the list utilizing data from the abstract and citation database Scopus. A researcher's ranking is based upon a number of criteria and scores are listed both with and without self-citations. A researcher's institutional affiliation and country are inferred based on most recent publications according to the Scopus data.

The rankings are split into the single latest year (2020) and cumulative career scores. This year, NDSU has 28 current researchers on the 2020 list and 31 on the career list.

“The extraordinary range of disciplines reflected by our campus researchers shows the national prominence of NDSU in areas ranging from food science to social psychology, polymers and more,” commented Colleen Fitzgerald, vice president for research and creative activity at NDSU.
