Get Ready for the Season
New to Science Olympiad or returning for another season? Find everything you need to organize your team, select a regional tournament, register, and prepare for competition below.
Science Olympiad teams consist of up to 15 students who work together to compete in a variety of STEM events. Students typically compete in pairs, with team members participating in multiple events throughout the tournament.
Division B: Grades 6–9
Division C: Grades 9–12
Team Composition
Teams may include up to 15 students. Division B teams may include no more than five 9th-grade students, and Division C teams may include no more than seven 12th-grade students. Review the current Science Olympiad rules for complete team membership and eligibility requirements.

Homeschool Students
Homeschool students may participate with their local public school district or form a homeschool team. Homeschool teams may include students from up to two contiguous counties. A homeschool team's classification is based on the classification of the students' local public school district. If students are from districts with different classifications, the team's classification is determined by where the majority of competing students reside
Coaches
Each team needs a coach to serve as the primary contact for registration and tournament communication. Coaches guide students as they prepare for events and receive important information from regional and state tournament organizers.
North Dakota teams compete at one of five regional tournaments across the state: Bismarck, Bottineau, Dickinson, Minot, and Valley City. Teams select their regional tournament during registration.
All North Dakota Science Olympiad teams are required to register for the season. The state registration fee includes your team’s regional tournament fee and National Science Olympiad membership. During registration, you will select the regional tournament your team plans to attend.
Registration also establishes your team’s membership with National Science Olympiad for the current season.
