Several activities are scheduled on campus at NDSU from April 2-5 to celebrate public health week, including a featured speaker.
Author Dineo Dowd will focus on prioritizing women’s health through outdoor activities. Dowd’s presentation, “Wild Wellness: empowering women’s health” is scheduled for Wednesday, April 3 at 10 a.m. in the Memorial Union Room of Nations.
Selected as one of Wisconsin’s most influential Black leaders in 2021, Dowd draws upon her experiences and love for nature to inspire people from all backgrounds to embrace the outdoors and pursue healthy lifestyles.
A native of South Africa, Dowd’s outdoor experiences fuel her passion to inspire women and individuals of color to embrace the outdoors and find their sense of adventure. As an avid mountaineer, accomplished author and compelling speaker, Dowd has dedicated herself to empower women and people of color, encouraging them to chase their outdoor aspirations and nurturing a profound appreciation for the natural world.
Her many adventures include climbing Mount Kilimanjaro and various peaks worldwide as she fundraises for establishing digital libraries in South African schools to create educational havens and access to knowledge.
An author reception will follow her presentation, which also will be available via Zoom.
