STEM Building nearly enclosed

SHARE

The upper floors of the north, south and west sides of NDSU’s STEM Classroom and Lab Building have been enclosed for months. But the east side has remained open, so heavy equipment can place large items inside the structure.

The east side now has floor to ceiling windows on the second and third floors. The large windows will let in natural light and provide people inside the building a view of Churchill Field.

The building is scheduled to be fully enclosed by October, and construction is expected to wrap up in late November. The first classes in the new building are scheduled for January 2016.

Other recent construction highlights include:

  • All the first floor classrooms and restrooms are framed. Many have drywall.
  • Second and third floor labs have painted walls, flooring, white boards, ceiling grid, light fixtures and sprinklers.
  • Green accent walls have been added to hallways on the second and third floors.
  • The eight-fume hood labs on third floor have casework. Fume hoods are in the process of being installed.
  • Concrete for an outdoor seating area between the STEM Building and Memorial Union is poured.

 Bus loop

The driving surface of the bus loop is poured. Buses will start using the loop in January 2016 when classes start in the building. Buses on University Drive will enter campus on 13th Avenue N. and follow the loop to exit between the Alba Bales House and Ceres Hall back onto University Drive.

Shifting the bus stop from Administration Avenue to the loop will create an efficient way for more buses to enter and exit campus, eliminate congestion on Administration Avenue and improve safety for people getting on and off buses.
