Williston Research Extension Center and MonDak Ag Showcase field days

The NDU Williston Research Extension Center is scheduled to host its annual dryland agronomy and horticulture field day on July 10 and host an irrigation field day July 11.

NDSU research and Extension and specialists will highlight their work. Highlighted topics during the dryland agronomy tour include:

• Soil acidification, causes, and management options

• Foundation seed increase program

• UAV demonstration

• Dryland soybean management

• Pipeline reclamation project

• Plant pathology

• Weed management

A concurrent horticulture program starts at 3:45 p.m. in the Ernie French Center for participants interested in flowers, gardening and fruit production.

A free steak and lamb dinner, sponsored by area businesses, follows the tour at 7 p.m.

The irrigation field day will be held on July 11 at the NDSU Irrigated Nesson Research and Development Farm, located 23 miles east of Williston on Hwy 1804.

Topics are:

• Center irrigation research and information on variety trials conducted under irrigation

• Soil structure and why it is important

• intercropping comparisons for irrigated production

• Weed management

• Chemical and chemical injury on crops

• High-tunnel research 

• Current U.S. Department of Agriculture research  

The irrigation field day will conclude with a noon luncheon sponsored by area businesses.
