NDSU President Dean L. Bresciani has announced Interim Provost Margaret Fitzgerald will continue her duties as permanent Provost. Bresciani made the announcement in an Oct. 2 email to the campus community.

“Dr. Fitzgerald has been Interim Provost for almost a year, and she has led her division through one of the most difficult times that has ever confronted higher education,” Bresciani said. “Her leadership has been rock-solid through these difficult times, and I believe that NDSU would be well served with her continued leadership.”

“It has been an honor to serve as Interim Provost these past months,” Fitzgerald said. “I greatly admire the creativity and dedication of people across the institution and look forward to working with faculty, staff, students and alumni in service to the land-grant mission of the university.

Fitzgerald began her career with a joint appointment through an Extension office in Minnesota and a community mental health center. After joining the NDSU faculty, she ultimately became dean of what was then called the College of Human Development and Education, now the College of Human Sciences and Education. She was named Interim Provost in 2019 with the retirement of Ken Grafton.

Fitzgerald earned her bachelor’s degree at NDSU, master’s degree from Arizona State University and doctorate in human development and family studies with emphasis in family resource management at Iowa State University.

As a student-focused, land-grant, research university, we serve our citizens.
