Faculty-Led Proposal

Proposing a Faculty-Led Program

Thank you for your interest in working with NDSU’s Study Abroad team to develop and deliver a faculty-led program. Because of faculty like you who design and lead these experiential learning programs, our NDSU students are becoming more globally aware.

If you are new to the process, please reach out to the Assistant Director of Study Abroad to discuss your program. Planning a Global Seminar requires extensive planning and consideration, but we are here to help with the process. We look forward to working with you throughout this process, which takes approximately 9-12 months from start to finish. Let’s get started!

Procedures for Faculty-Led Program Proposals

Step 1: Complete Faculty-Led Program Proposal through Qualtrics

This is an informal survey to capture all of the basic information for your program. It includes sections on:

  • Faculty Leader Information
  • Travel Information
  • Course Information

Your plans do not have to be completely fleshed out at this stage. This form will let us know your plans including dates, locations, and courses offered. You do not need to have a full itinerary or cost for the program at this phase. We will assist with those efforts in the next phase.

Just a few notes on this first step of the process in Qualtrics.

  • There are a few questions that you may want to type out ahead of time and have ready to paste into the proposal so you don’t have to do it all in one sitting. Please reach out for a full list of questions so you can have all of the information ready to go when you start filling it in.
  • If you do need to stop in the middle of the proposal and come back to it all you have to do is copy the hyperlink. When you come back to it later all of the responses should still be there.
  • Please use the Next and Back buttons as needed.
  • Once you submit the proposal you will have an option to download a pdf of your responses. You will also receive an email confirmation with your responses.

Step 2: Work with GPS to Confirm Travel Itinerary and Costs

If the proposal is feasible, we will reach out to you to set up a meeting to go over any questions we might have. Then we will reach out to our affiliated providers to put out a call for quotes. Ideally, we will request two quotes, especially if this is a new program, or a program that has not been bid out in many years. Once we have a good quote, we will build a budget to determine the program costs for students. At that point we will compile all of the final program information into a cover page with program details and a full packet with budget and syllabus to send on for final approval.

Step 3: Final Approval

The final program proposal packet will be routed for the following signatures:

  • Program Leader
  • Co-Leader (if applicable)
  • Department Head
  • College Dean
  • Office of Financial Aid & Scholarships
  • GPS

Once we have the final approval, we will work with you to create the program application on our website, create marketing materials, and promote the program on campus.
