Passport Process:

The Global Programs and Services Office is a certified passport acceptance facility.

We process passports for first-time U.S. passports by Appointment only. Requirements for minors
Renewals can be done online or by mail. Confirm you meet the requirements for Renewal by Mail or Online by going to U.S. Department of State at Travel.State.Gov

Gather Documents for Your Appointment:

First-time applicants:

  1. Evidence of U.S Citizenship and a Photocopy of the front and back (black & white on single-sided 8.5 x 11 inch paper)
    This is often a certified copy of your birth certificate that has the seal or stamp on it. Each state varies on how to obtain a certified copy, please refer to your state government page.
  2. Proof of Identification and a Photocopy of the front and back (black & white on single-sided 8.5 x 11 inch paper)
    Often a Driver's license or military or government issued ID (Social Security Cards are NOT accepted alone as valid form of ID)

    If your ID is from a different state than the state you are applying, bring a second photo ID. (example: MN resident applying in ND)

  3. Completed application (Do Not Sign)
    Print your completed application. You will be asked to sign during your appointment.
  4. One Passport Photo (Please indicate if you need this when you make your appt. booking in the notes)
    Passport and Visa photos can be taken at our facility for additional cost and include two 2x2 inch prints. (Pictures are valid for ONLY 6 months)

    The NDSU Study Abroad Office is pleased to offer passport photo services as a convenience. While we follow U.S. passport photo guidelines to the best of our ability, we are not professional passport photographers and cannot guarantee that photos will be accepted, but we will retake them for free if needed.

    $12.00 for NDSU students and staff or

    $15.00 for the general public (checks must be made payable to NDSU GPS)

    $10.00 if need Digital Copy ONLY! (for renewals online sent via email)

    (Please note that photographing young children may present additional challenges, as infants and young toddlers may be unable to sit independently or maintain the positioning required for passport photos. Individuals are welcome to submit passport photos taken elsewhere or on own if preferred. Alternatively, our staff will make every reasonable effort to capture an acceptable photo during your appointment for an additional fee).

  5. Payments (2 Separate Checks or Money Orders)
    • Check or money order to "U.S. Department of State"
      $130 for Passport Book, $30 for Passport Card, or $160 for both. Expedited costs extra (optional): $60
    • Check or money order to "NDSU GPS" acceptance facility for $35.00 and in memo line write: Passport Fee (If you are doing pictures with us the amount for pictures above can be added to this check).
    • Passports for minors (under 16): Both parents/guardians must be present.
      For Minors: Passport Fee is only $100 for Passport Book, $15 for Passport Card.
    • NDSU Students may be eligible for a FREE 1st time US Passport if you are Pell Grant eligible, never had a US passport before, and are a first-year and/or first generation student during the 26-27 academic year through an IIE International Education grant, limited to 25 students. Contact our office for more info at ndsu.international@ndsu.edu to see if you qualify today! (Does not apply to expedited passport processing or Passport Card fees).
