Come to an Intake Arrival Reporting Session as soon as you arrive!

This is your first official check-in with our team. We'll make sure your SEVIS arrival has been properly reported, help you access key resources, and answer immediate questions. It's quick, easy, and sets the foundation for your success.

Arrival Intake sessions will be held at the following times:

  • Monday, December 29th 2:00pm-3:30PM
  • Monday, January 5th 2:00pm-3:30PM

For students who need to apply for a Social Security Number are invited to stay for a Social Security Number information session immediately following the intake sessions.

For students who arrive in Fargo more than one week before the first Intake session are welcome to schedule an appointment with their International Student Advisor to have an individual Intake session.

Late Arrivals, you must make an appointment with your International Advisor or come in during walk-in hours (1:30-3pm), to complete your Intake Session.

Attend Required International Student Orientation

Our orientation is required - and intentionally designed to be informative, inclusive, and fun. You'll meet other new students, learn about essential university services, get practical tips for life in Fargo, and hear from student who've been in your shoes.

    Spring Orientation Dates: January 7th and 8th starting at 8am each day till 4pm. (Breakfast & Lunch will be provided each day)

Accommodations

If you are arriving before your on-campus housing is available, you may need to stay temporarily in a hotel.

Some hotels in Fargo offer complimentary shuttles and/or meals. Shuttle services may include drop-off at NDSU, please ask about this service when booking your hotel.

Planning your Travel

Check your I-20/DS2019: DO NOT ENTER the United States before the "EARLIEST ADMISSION DATE" on page 1 of I-20/DS2019. (Note: If you enter the US before this date you will be refused entry to the United States, and risk loosing your visa).

Fargo Airport

Students can arrive at Hector International Airport in Fargo:

You will NOT go through Customs at the Fargo airport upon leaving the plane. You will go through Customs at your first port of entry to the United States. The Fargo airport is not large, so once you depart your plane, the baggage claim is only a minute or two away.

Weather & Winter Information

Before you depart for Fargo, please watch the weather forecast for your arrival date and dress appropriately.

If you are arriving in the summer or early fall, the weather can be warm and pleasant, or very hot. Fall can also be cool, so a light jacket is recommended.

If you are arriving in winter, the weather can be very cold with snow, so be prepared with a coat/jacket, hat, gloves, and warm shoes. To learn more and better prepare.

Pre-Arrival Email Announcements

If you are not receiving email announcements from our office about arrival and orientation details a month before the semester begins, please email us at NDSU.iss@ndsu.edu and we will ensure you are added to our email list.

Please note: Before the semester begins, we will use your personal email address for sending out information about arrival and orientation. The personal address we use is the one that you used when you created your online admission application to NDSU.
