Two NDSU Faculty Join the Office of Teaching and Learning as Faculty Fellows

Drs. Ali Amiri and Jodi Tangen have joined the Office of Teaching and Learning (OTL) as faculty fellows for the 2023-2024 academic year. Faculty teaching fellows provide support and leadership through the Office of Teaching and Learning to advance a culture of learning improvement at NDSU.

As faculty fellows Drs. Amiri and Tangen will assist the OTL director in planning and organizing professional development activities for NDSU instructors. Dr. Amiri’s area of focus is on program development and guidance for the Graduate Teaching and Learning Community, and Dr. Tangen’s focus is on coordinating a slate of engaging faculty development activities centered around student retention.

Dr. Ali Amiri is an associate professor of practice in mechanical engineering at North Dakota State University. He received his Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering from NDSU in 2017 and has been teaching classes since fall 2016. Dr. Amiri teaches a variety of courses, ranging from Engineering Mechanics, Product Design and Development to Fundamentals of Visual Communication for Engineers. He also coordinates the senior design projects (capstone course) for the mechanical engineering department. In addition, Dr. Amiri advises and mentors undergraduate and graduate students, and mentors senior design projects.

Dr. Jodi L. Tangen, PhD, LPC, NCC, ACS, is an associate professor and program coordinator in the Counselor Education program at North Dakota State University. Her research interests center on counselor education and supervision, creative teaching methods, counseling and spirituality, diversity, and relational depth.
