Bison Fund combines investment research with hands-on portfolio management to develop students and deliver lasting value to students and North Dakota State University.
Learn by Investing
The Bison Fund is a student-run investment fund that gives students hands-on experience managing real capital. Members generate original investment ideas, conduct equity research, make buy and sell decisions, manage portfolios, and evaluate risk.
The Bison Fund provides students with direct exposure to financial markets, investment professionals, and the investment process. Members develop skills in financial analysis, valuation, research, portfolio management, and communication. Students from a variety of academic backgrounds can join the fund and build the knowledge and skills needed to pursue careers across the financial industry.
Connect Beyond the Classroom
Each year, Bison Fund members participate in the CFA Research Challenge, developing their ability to conduct in-depth equity research and present an investment thesis. Beyond the competition, the fund focuses on teaching students how to analyze businesses and markets using fundamental investment principles and mental models. Our goal is to develop students who can think critically about businesses, markets, and investment opportunities.
Professional development and industry relationships are also a key part of the Bison Fund experience. Members meet with financial professionals, visit firms, attend conferences and participate in networking opportunities. The Bison Fund has traveled to Minneapolis, Chicago, and New York to meet with firms and industry professionals. Members also attend events such as the CFA Dinner in Minneapolis, providing opportunities to learn from and connect with professionals across the industry.
