Department of Accounting and Information Systems Chair

The position of Department Chair is available in NDSU’s Department of Accounting and
Information Systems (AIS). This is an internal search, specific to faculty members at North
Dakota State University in the College of Business.

Position Description:

In all endeavors, the Department Chair will be engaged in making the department and college
an inclusive environment for all faculty, staff, and students.

The minimum requirements for this position include:

  • Tenured Associate Professor in any of the departments in the College of Business
  • Evidence of strong written and oral communication skills
  • Documented excellence in teaching
  • Evidence of successfully leading teams and building consensus
  • Evidence of effective interpersonal communication skills
  • Strong research record

Candidates with the following characteristics are especially encouraged to apply:

  • Rank of Full Professor
  • Demonstrated success in an administrative position
  • Evidence of strong skills in conflict resolution
  • Documented experience with administering external grants

The chief responsibilities will include:

  • Leading with integrity, professionalism, and collegiality.
  • Managing department personnel, including searches for adjunct faculty, committee work, attention to interpersonal conflict, and mentoring faculty at all levels
  • Organizing, scheduling, and staffing course offerings each semester with attention to the needs of the university, college, faculty, and students.
  • Managing course and section offerings in line with minimum enrollment policy.
  • Consulting with the other departments and academic advisors in the college on scheduling of course offerings
  • Preparing the Department’s annual report and other documents requested by the Dean
  • Completing annual reviews and PTE-related evaluations of faculty including post-tenure reviews
  • Overseeing professional development budgets and approving faculty expenses
  • Consulting with the faculty in the administration of the department
  • Representing the department at relevant meetings with Dean, Provost, and other campus administrators and committees
  • Meeting twice monthly with the executive and leadership teams.
  • Meeting monthly with the Dean and executing other tasks as assigned by the Dean or Associate Dean

Compensation and workload:

Faculty moving from a traditional 9-month contract to the Department Chair role would move to a 11-month contract with the applicable salary adjustment. The position of Department Chair will require 60% workload allocated to administrative duties and service, 20% allocated to teaching (one section per semester), and 20% allocated to research.

All adjustments to salary and workload will begin July 1, 2026.
