About

Founded in 2025, the Supply Chain Club is a student-led organization within the College of Business at North Dakota State University. Open to students of all majors, the club serves as a resource for those interested in logistics, procurement, operations, transportation, and the broader field of supply chain management. We are especially focused on supporting students pursuing a career in supply chain by connecting them with industry professionals, faculty mentors, and peers who share their interests.

Through networking events, facility tours, guest speakers, case competitions, and professional development workshops, members gain meaningful insights that apply to a wide range of career paths. Whether you are exploring supply chain as a potential field of study or looking to broaden your professional network, the Supply Chain Club offers a space to learn, grow, and prepare for your career.

The Supply Chain Management Student Club at North Dakota State University empowers students within the College of Business to develop expertise in supply chain management through hands-on learning, industry engagement, and collaborative problem-solving. Supply chain leaders from regional and national companies visit our meetings to share career paths, industry trends, and emerging challenges in logistics, procurement, manufacturing, and analytics.

Company and Facility Tours

Members visit distribution centers, manufacturing plants, and corporate offices to see supply chain operations firsthand.

Professional Development

Resume reviews, mock interviews, LinkedIn workshops, and career fair preparation help members compete for internships and full-time roles.

Case Competitions & Certifications

We support members preparing for supply chain case competitions and entry-level certifications such as Lean Six Sigma White/Yellow Belt, ASCM CLTD, and CSCMP SCPro Fundamentals.

Networking & Community

Social events, alumni mixers, and meetings with affiliate organizations build the professional network that defines a successful supply chain career.

Membership

Membership in the Supply Chain Club is open to all NDSU students, regardless of college or major. Students majoring or minoring in Management, Marketing, Operations, Finance, Accounting, Economics, Engineering Management, and Industrial Engineering will find the club particularly relevant, but every student with curiosity about how goods, services, and information move through the global economy is welcome.

Career Paths in Supply Chain

Supply chain management is one of the fastest-growing and most diverse career fields in business. Graduates with supply chain knowledge are recruited into roles spanning procurement, logistics, operations, transportation, inventory management, and consulting. The summary below outlines representative career paths for NDSU students entering the field.

Materials Scheduler. Coordinates raw materials and inventory with production schedules to ensure that materials arrive at production facilities in the right quantities at the right time and that quality finished products are released.

Materials Analyst / Manager. Manages inventory levels, coordinates with purchasing, and supports budgeting and forecasting. Often partners with engineering and product development teams; senior roles take on a strategic role to improve processes, quality, and productivity. Just-in-Time, Lean, and Six Sigma knowledge is highly valued.

Production Analyst / Manager. Coordinates production schedules, forecasts labor requirements, maintains quality, determines material requirements, and manages finished goods output and inventory. A typical career path runs from analyst to manager to director-level operations roles.

Procurement Analyst / Purchasing Manager. Identifies and selects suppliers, negotiates contracts, develops the business framework for those contracts, and manages supplier relationships. Works with materials managers and manufacturing departments to determine material needs and develop metrics for procurement cost, delivery, service level, and quality.

Logistics Analyst / Manager. Involved in warehouse and distribution operations, forecasting, planning, logistics information systems, customer service, and purchasing. Analysts focus on problem solving, forecasting, and ensuring operations run within defined metrics; managers negotiate contracts, develop strategy, and oversee day-to-day logistics functions.

Process Engineer. Analyzes processes within manufacturing, distribution, transportation, and retail to develop improvements that make better and safer use of labor, materials, energy, and other resources.

Supply Chain Analyst. Supports the supply chain manager by defining business processes, performing analyses, evaluating vendors and potential partners, researching industry best practices, and communicating supply chain goals to cross-functional teams.

Supply Chain Systems Manager. Manages supply chain information systems through data mining, collection, warehousing, and reporting. Works closely with customers and stakeholders to understand requirements and facilitate collaboration.

Supply Chain Manager. Develops strategies to improve the overall productivity of the supply chain by coordinating and overseeing all activities involved. Responsibilities span supervising and training employees, negotiating terms and prices with suppliers, and aligning the supply chain with broader business strategy.

Inventory Specialist. A supervisory role focused on stocking and inventory management. Responsibilities include counting inventory, maintaining warehouse space, and training staff on inventory procedures.

Replenishment Specialist. Analyzes data to make recommendations, orders supplies, and processes shipments to keep inventory levels aligned with demand.

Warehouse Operations Manager. Oversees warehouse operations, including product handling, shipment, and delivery. Sets the warehouse layout and creates forecasts to ensure storage capacity meets demand.

Supply Chain Consultant. Helps businesses optimize their supply chains by analyzing current systems for inefficiencies and using metrics to assess supply chain health. Saves clients time and cost while improving overall business performance.

Project Manager. Oversees projects in procurement, manufacturing operations, and other parts of the supply chain. Negotiates with wholesalers and suppliers and leads implementation of new technologies, including inventory management systems.

  • Council of Supply Chain Management Professionals (CSCMP): The leading global association for supply chain professionals; offers student membership, career resources, the SCPro certification track, and an annual Edge conference.

  • Association for Supply Chain Management (ASCM / APICS): Provides the CPIM, CSCP, and CLTD certifications widely recognized by manufacturers, distributors, and 3PLs.

  • Institute for Supply Management (ISM): Focused on procurement and sourcing; offers the CPSM certification and student membership.

  • Project Management Institute (PMI): Useful for members interested in operations and supply chain project management; offers the CAPM and PMP certifications.
