January 20, 2022 Meeting Minutes | Bismarck, ND

The State Board of Agricultural Research and Education met for a regular meeting on January 20, 2022. Present: Jim Bahm, Doug Bichler, Mark Birdsall, Rep. Tracy Boe, John Dhuyvetter, Doug Goehring, Lance Gulleson, Larry Hoffmann, Sen. Jerry Klein, Greg Lardy, Sarah Lovas, Dean Wehri and Julie Zikmund. Absent: Dean Bresciani and Mark Urquhart.

Chair Lovas called the meeting to order at 9:00 a.m. She welcomed everyone in attendance and asked for introductions.

Administrative Updates from Greg Lardy, VP for Agricultural Affairs, Dean, Director, Director

Dr. Lardy advised that five candidates would be invited to campus to interview for the President of NDSU position. There will be a meet and greet/social as part of the process and the board is invited to attend. After the interviews are complete, the search committee will send their recommendations on at least three candidates to the SBHE Board. Dr. Lardy encouraged the SBARE board to participate in the process. They hope to announce the new President by February 23.

Administrative Update from Lynette Flage, Associate Director of NDSU Extension

Dr. Flage indicated they are in the process of interviewing for the Agricultural Experiment Station (AES) Associate Director position. She invited the board to participate and offer feedback by January 27, 2022.

Update from Tom Bodine, Office of the ND Agriculture Commissioner

Comments from Sarah Lovas, SBARE Chair

Chair Lovas reminded the board about the process for the prioritization. Discussions were held to clarify the meaning of items in each category: Extension, Agriculture Experiment Station (AES), and capital projects.

Prioritization Process

The Board reviewed requests from the Extension, Agricultural Experiment Station, and capital projects categories.

Vice Chair, Jim Bahm, reminded the board about the Ag Coalition nominations, which are due by February 24.

MOTION: Motion by Sen. Jerry Klein to adjourn the meeting. Seconded by Mark Birdsall. Motion carried.
