New Faculty Mentoring

The Office of the Provost organizes campus-wide mentoring sessions for new faculty.  Faculty are encouraged to participate in the sessions through third-year review at NDSU. These sessions are intended to complement any existing departmental or college mentoring programs. If you would like to be connected to a mentor for addressing specific areas of interest, please fill out the Request Faculty Mentor form.

Faculty Advancement Mentoring Network

FAMN  is another option for mentoring and provides cross-disciplinary mentoring support for new and junior faculty, who are matched in small groups with experienced faculty mentors at the beginning of the academic year. FAMN is open to any faculty member, in any discipline, in any rank/position at NDSU who has been at NDSU between 0-5 years.

Additional New Faculty Mentoring Sessions

To help you get established, identify campus resources, and connect with your colleagues, the NDSU Provost’s Office / Faculty Affairs, the Office of Teaching and Learning, and the Research and Creative Activity Office are collaborating to provide new faculty programs on topics related to research, teaching, and service. These sessions will include discussions on topics like active learning; promotion, tenure, and evaluation (PTE); developing independent research programs; assessment; and communicating science. This program will also provide opportunities to meet the people who will be resources for you as you navigate your first year. Please watch your email for communications from their offices.

External and Collaborative Mentoring Support

Through NDSU's membership with NCFDD, there are opportunities available to you such as a private discussion forum for peer-mentoring and problem-solving, moderated writing challenges, and monthly accountability buddy matches.

NDSU also participates in a cross-institutional partnership that also offers cross-institutional mentoring opportunities.
