Other Account Charges

Individuals requesting admission to NDSU may be required to pay a non-refundable application fee of $35. Additional information regarding the application process and documentation requirements may be found here: How to Apply.

Bison Ready is NDSU's automatically-enrolled default option for all degree-seeking students. Through Bison Ready Complete, the first tier, the Bookstore charges students one flat rate per semester for all their course materials. Digital materials are available via Blackboard, and required physical materials (books, course kits) can be picked up or shipped from the Bookstore.

If you do opt-out of Bison Ready Complete, you will move into the second tier of Bison Ready which is Bison Ready Select. This program allows you to keep certain materials and opt out of others so you can find them on your own elsewhere.

Both Bison Ready programs are completely optional, and students can opt out altogether. If you drop your course before the opt-out deadline, you will be automatically refunded for its course materials.

Student Charging is an optional method of payment allowed by the NDSU Bookstore. Financial Aid is not required for student charging. Students are allowed a $500 balance limit for student charging. When students have reached the balance limit, they will not be able to charge any further items to their account. Only registered NDSU students with an NDSU student ID may charge to their student accounts. All charges for the Bookstore are reflected in PeopleSoft as a separate line item on a students’ account. If excess financial aid is available your charges will be deducted. If not, it is your responsibility to check your account and make payment arrangements.

Select programs may charge a capacity enrollment fee at time of enrollment. Programs currently charging the fee include Nursing ($50). This is in addition to the standard application fee.

The course audit (not for credit) fee is 50% of the student's tuition rate, based on their individual residency. Student fees are not assessed on audited courses.

The course challenge fee is 50% of the North Dakota tuition rate. The fee is paid after approval of the petition to challenge, but before the special examination is administered. Course challenges are coordinated by the Office of Registration & Records.

Individual courses or course section may have additional fees, which are charged uniformly to all enrolled students. Examples include: field trip fees, equine fees, study abroad, student teaching practicums, music lessons, and aviation fees. The current list of course/class fees may be found here: Class Fees.

Electronic payments received by NDSU that are returned by the banking institution due to insufficient funds and/or a stopped payment will be assessed a Failed Payment Fee of $25.

Residence Halls

• There is a $100.00 Room Reservation Fee required for the initial residence hall application. This fee goes towards the amount due once a student moves in.
• Students living in residence halls on campus incur Residence Hall Charges based on the hall they are residing in and the number of occupants in the room.
• Hall dues are a yearly charge up to a maximum of $100.00 and are used for hall related activities, programs, coinless laundry services, and purchases of recreational and kitchen equipment.
• Additional charges may be applied for damages and/or lost keys.

Apartments

• There is a $200.00 Apartment Reservation Fee for the initial on-campus apartment application. This fee goes towards the first month's rent once a student moves into their apartment.

All students are required to have an NDSU photo ID card. New and/or replacement ID Cards are charged to the student account ($20 for lost/replacement, $10 for damaged). Questions may be directed to the IT Service Center.

During each semester, including summer, each is charged the International Student Support Services Fee of $125. All international students are required to maintain NDUS-required health insurance while attending NDSU, which is charged twice a year in the Fall and Spring semesters; those that are newly arrived in the summer are charged for summer coverage in that first term.

If an account remains unpaid for more than thirty days after the payment due date, a late payment fee of 1.75% of the principal balance may be assessed. Additional information regarding late fees may be found here: Late Fees.

Students that fail to return items to the NDSU Libraries or damage items while in their possession may be charged lost item fees. For details visit the Materials information page or contact NDSU Libraries with questions.

Meal plans are available to all NDSU students. Charges are based on the type of the meal plan you select. For information on meal plans and associated costs go to the Dining Services website.

A non-refundable $30 fee is charged to students enrolling in a Monthly Payment Plan.

The Department of Student Success Programs is funded by a $200 non-refundable fee charged to all new undergraduate and professional degree seeking students in their first semester at NDSU. The new student fee provides operations and personnel costs aimed at promoting student success and retention, including but not limited to, orientation and Welcome Week programs, tutoring, and peer mentoring services.

NDSU students are able to utilize on-campus parking by purchasing an NDSU parking permit. The parking permit is $185 for the academic year. For further information on parking and transportation options visit the Parking Office website. Parking citations may be charged to student accounts as well.

NDSU offers various assessments for counseling purposes. Questions may be directed to the Counseling Center.

Students may have charges billed to their NDSU student account by the Student Health Service Center which may include, but not limited to, charges for clinical services, laboratory services, x-ray services, medications, etc. For more information on the Student Health Service insurance/billing process, please see their Billing page. Students may elect to participate in a Study Abroad program to enhance their education experience. Participation will result in charges above the base tuition rate and vary depending on the program selected and actual cost of the program. All participants are charged a Study Abroad User Fee of $300 or $500 depending on the program selected.
