Fargo, N.D. - Red Cross Learn-to-Swim courses offered through the NDSU Swim Academy this fall are designed to provide children and young teens with a positive, developmentally appropriate aquatic learning experience. Each class is filled with fun, engaging and challenging activities that motivate participants to want to perform and learn how to swim. All sessions run for 5 weeks on Saturday mornings. Preschool and parent/child levels, along with levels 1 and 2 are 30 minutes; levels 3-5 are 40 minutes and level 6 is 50 minutes. All instructors are WSI certified and each class has a student to teacher ratio of 6:1. (parent/child, preschool and levels 1 and 2 have a ratio of 4:1)

Aquatic Facility

Aquatics at the NDSU Wellness Center opened in the fall of 2016. Students voted for the project in 2013, adding $29.16/semester to the wellness fee for construction. An additional $27.12 was added to the wellness fee in 2016 to support the operations of the facility. Aquatics has a wide variety of aquatic, fitness and intramural programming planned for the fall 2017 semester - check it out at wellnessportal.ndsu.edu. Amenities of the facility include:

  • Six lane, 25-yard lap pool
  • Leisure pool including:
    • Spa/hot tub
    • Vortex circle
    • Zero-degree entry and lounge space 
    • Basketball and volleyball nets
    • Fire pit
    • Wet classroom
  • Sauna
  • GroupFIT classes
  • Aquatic and intramural programming
  • Men's and women's locker rooms
  • Gender-neutral locker room

Take a walk back to aquatics and get ready to do some laps! The 50 Mile Swim is open to all swim strokes and you have all semester to reach the finish line. This stage in the Wellness Center Challenge will have you swimming 1,760 laps total, can you do it? All distances will be recorded on the 50 Mile Swim log sheet located on the bulletin board in the lap pool area. Refer to the Wellness Center Challenge page to see more.
*Challenge resets every semester. Miles do not carry over

Swim Masters is a FREE program for anyone looking for a swim-team-style training sessions and looking for advanced stroke technique. Workouts will be varied based on the level of the group of swimmers that show up to each session. 

Tuesdays and Thursdays: 6-7 p.m.
