Residence Life

Value Statement

As agents for social change and equality, NDSU Residence Life values a climate where every individual is encouraged and supported.  We value the discovery and expression of each person's identity in order to develop environments that recognize and appreciate the diverse characteristics that make every individual unique; and we value relationships with all people with whom we have the opportunity to engage.

The NDSU Department of Residence Life is committed to:

  • Sustaining a diverse living environment where all participants are welcome and feel safe
  • Seeking understanding of all people in contact with the department
  • Creating a community of respect for all to interact and learn from one another
  • Allowing each individual the opportunity to discover and express their identity
  • Providing diversity and respect training for student and professional staff
  • Fostering opportunities to learn from one another and grow through shared experiences

Diversity Committee

The Residence Life Diversity Committee was formed in 2006, and consists of members from all areas of our department.  The main purpose of the committee is to provide leadership and direction in helping the Department of Residence Life exist as a place where all individuals are welcomed and accepted.  Some of the activities of the committee include:

Assessment - Examining the current climate for students and staff within the Department and studying the climate over time to evaluate whether positive change is taking place

Planning and Implementation - Developing strategic goals and actions that are transformational in the creation of welcoming and accepting community and assisting in the implementation of the strategic plan

Learning - Recognizing that we are all life-long learners and committing ourselves to ongoing learning in the areas of diversity and social justice

Leadership - Providing for others guidance, education, and enthusiasm for our strategic plan and our commitment to creating a welcoming and accepting environment for all people

Teamwork - Working together to support each other and displaying openness and honesty in all discussions
